Electronic Clinical Decision Support Technical Workshop December 2003
HL7 Australia, in conjunction with HL7 New Zealand, held a two-day Technical Workshop on Electronic Clinical Decision Support on December 11&12, 2003 (La Trobe University City Campus, 215 Franklin St., Melbourne, Australia). This workshop was an initiative of the HL7 Australia / HL7 New Zealand Electronic Clinical Decision Support Technical Committee. The Technical Workshop was sponsored by HL7 Australia, HL7 New Zealand , the Australian Department of Health and Aging , the New Zealand Ministry of Health , the Australian Quality and Safety Council (ACSQHC) and the Australian National Prescribing Service (NPS) .
The primary focus of the Technical Workshop was on therapeutic information resources, but diagnostics (pathology & radiology) and preventative (immunization) resources were also considered.

Initially, this workshop was proposed as part of an ITOL Grant Application submitted by HL7 Australia to the Australian National Office of Information Economy (NOIE). However, there was general agreement that the Technical Workshop should proceed prior to the outcome of the NOIE grant application. This approach also allowed the involvement of a number of organisations / companies who were unable to participate in the original application to NOIE, including those in New Zealand.
The outcomes from the Technical Workshop include:
