1st HL7 Australia Terminology & LOINC Workshop

Nov. 3, 2005 - Community Health Complex, 184 St Paul’s Terrace, Brisbane, Australia

Dear Colleagues,

Australia is moving toward the adoption of a national standard set of terminologies or code-sets to support the storage, processing and exchange of clinical information. The LOINC system is widely used in various health areas and forms the basis of the AustPath codes endorsed in the national standard on Pathology order and result messaging (AS4700.3 - www.austpath.uow.edu.au/index.cgi)

Clem McDonald, the “father” of LOINC, will be leading the workshop, with input from several Australian experts on local terminology implementation issues.

This one-day workshop will provide:

  • An introduction to key terminology and coding issues with a focus on the way that terminology has to work with data models for reliable concept representation and communication.  (Peter Scott, Peter MacIsaac)
  • An introduction to the Australian pathology code set (Michael Legg)
  • An update on the Australian national terminology strategy under the management of the National E-health Transition Authority. (Karen Gibson)
  • A tutorial on the LOINC system,  how to use and implement it (Clem McDonald)

Who should attend?

  • IT systems implementers in healthcare (in particular those in the hospital & pathology sectors))
  • Data systems designers and implementers
  • HL7 message implementers
  • Clinical informaticians
  • Health Information Manager
  • Health Informatics students and researchers

Please see the program below for more details and register soon! Note that HL7 Australia members in good standing enjoy a reduced registration fee of $250 instead of $320!!!

We look forward to welcoming you to this unique workshop in Brisbane.
