"Web Services" and "Service Orientated Architecture" are the new buzz words in the health IT space. They appear to be a new direction for health communications. But where are they on the famous Gartner "Hype Cycle"? If they become one form of communication protocol to enable collaboration between different applications, how will they work?
HL7 Australia is convening a two-day conference on "Web Services in Health – Where do we go from here" on Thursday and Friday 25th & 26th May at the Stamford Plaza Airport Hotel in Sydney. This conference is a follow-on from our very successful Web Services Workshop held in March of this year.
The 10th HL7 Australia Conference follows the NEHTA Industry Executive Standards Seminar on May 22nd and the Standards Australia IT-014 Joint Working Group Meeting (May 23&24) which will feature perspectives from major national and international players in the health informatics space, updates on national work programs, discussion forums and open IT-014 sub-committee/working group meetings.
How will we move forward with the development of web services? What are the transition options from the currently deployed infrastructure to the future? How is the HL7 community world-wide responding to the challenges of the national eHealth programs?
HL7 Australia has put together an exciting two-day Conference program featuring renowned international speakers who will give us guidance on the way forward.
Our first keynote speaker is Charles "Chuck" Meyer, Chairman of HL7.org; he will update us on the efforts of HL7 globally facilitating the national programs. He will also give us a tutorial on finance messages - an area of the HL7 standrads we don't usually look at in Australia.
Our second keynote speaker is Ken Rubin, Co-Chair of the HL7 Services-oriented Architecture Technical Committee. Ken will focus in two sessions on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), both from a strategic angle as well as focussing on the implementation issues.
Other topics will be:
- an update on Archetypes and the possibility of re-using the HL7 V2.x infrastructure.
- an update on the recent HL7 Working Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
- A tutorial on HL7 V2.x message testing and certification
The Conference will provide both a high level overview of the technologies as well as a focus on the areas best addressed by Web Services and SOA, as well as technical and implementation issues.
