Charter
HL7 Australia seeks to empower the users of HL7 in Australia to effectively use information technology to provider better health outcomes at a sustainable cost. HL7 Australia provides a forum to support HL7 users and other parties interested in the HL7 interoperability standards in Australia.
HL7 Australia is a forum that provides a collaboration and support infrastructure (e-mail lists, web sites, conferences, workshops, meetings, teleconferences, etc.) to support HL7 users achieving their chosen objectives. HL7 Australia organises HL7 education and training, facilitates technical meetings and other forms of support that users may require.
An initial focus is the new HL7 technologies that users wish to explore (Version 3, Clinical Document Architecture, EHR, Clinical Decision Support, Community Health, common Vocabularies, CCOW, etc.) and the support of members who need technical support and clarification but lack appropriate resources.
HL7 Australia may collate, evaluate and recommend for action by other entities any technical requirements, issues and other input expressed and agreed to by its members.
HL7 Australia will not directly engage in standards registration - this is the privilege of the national standards bodies. However, it will facilitate the creation of proposals to be submitted to HL7.org and the national standards bodies.

Membership of HL7 Australia is open to all individuals and organisations interested in HL7. HL7 Australia has a Board, democratically elected by all members.
