Conference Call Notes

Second Conference Call, Thursday, March 18, 16:05-17:10 EST

Attendees:

Irma Jongeneel (Holland)

Tom de Jong (Holland)

Greg Thomas (USA)

Klaus Veil – Moderator (Australia)

There appear to have been some problems in setting up this conference call, as both Irma and David Rowed were not called. This to be rectified next time.

Review of Irma's Proposal and Tom's Variations

Two requirements have been identified:

First the merits of the multiple given names was discussed. This is a requirement of Dutch healthcare admissions. Irma had suggested extending the XPN datatype by another component; Tom however felt that a re-naming of "middle initial or name" to "second and further given names or initials" would be preferable because it is backward compatible. Klaus stressed the importance of backward-compatibility.

This issue should be finalised at the next phone meeting.

The issue of the call-me name may be more complicated. This is a simple and well-defined concept in Holland ("call-me" name). Irma proposed to add a "preferred given name-part" component. However, in other cultures a nickname or street-name is not derived from any name-part. Edward->Ted is simple; what about Henry->Fatty? If we expand the concept to include a street name, what about the "Professor Fatty Two-Shoes Jr"? This would speak for a new Name type "Nick/Call-me/Street Name". This solution keeps the XPN data-type slim by only adding data when required.

This issue should also be able to be resolved at the next meeting.

This lead on to the use case of a practitioner having one or more license names. The name type "E = License Name" should be added to HL7 Table 200.

Furthermore, the current "Name of Partner/Spouse" was reviewed. The description is a misnomer. It was suggested that this name type be obsoleted in favour of a new component. This needs more discussion.
