Be part of history with the first 3 day HL7 Australia Working Group Meeting in Sydney 6, 7 & 8 July 2016, at Rydges Central.  Attendees can get excellent room rates at the hotel - just mention you are attending the HL7 Australia Working Group Meeting!

Set to be a key event in the Australia Health Informatics community, the WGM brings together clinicians, software vendors, medical organisations and key government decision makers.  The three day event provides opportunity to collaborate on draft e-health standards, network and share ideas with others within the community and attend a range of educational sessions.  

WGM Tutorials and Meetings

The following tutorials, education sessions and Work Group Meetings will be available across the three days.  Outlines of our plenary and guest speakers can be viewed here.

  • Introduction to FHIR: This 1.5 day connectathon is an ideal starting point for any developer wanting to gain a better understanding of FHIR.  Find out more here!
  • FHIR for Execs: Grahame Grieve, the "Father of FHIR" will give an insight to what FHIR is, how it relates to v2 and CDA and help you determine if and when it might be relevant for your organisation. This is an ideal session for CEOs, executives and key decision makers. 
  • Are FHIR and Mobile making the My Health Record Irrelevant? Tim Blake explores the idea that given the increasing market momentum of FHIR, the ability for consumers to use mobile devices to engage with their own health and the ability of Apple's HeathKit to store and render CCD documents, do we still need the My Health Record in its current form?

  • International Terminology: Heather Grain, will provide an update on what is happening in the International Terminology domain and its impact on Australian e-health.
  • HL7 Standards - What, Where, Why & How?  Learn more about HL7 Standards and their importance and influence in decision making within the Australian e-health domain.
  • Trifolia and FHIR - Sarah Gaunt will be presenting and demonstrating using Lantana's Trifolia tool to author FHIR profiles with specific emphasis on C-CDA on FHIR.
  • Back to the Future 4: HL7 v2 into the future: Andrew McIntyre explores the possibilities for HL7 v2 into the future within the Australian and international domain.

  • Cocktail event - Day 1 ends with a cocktail event where vendors, clinicians and developers can mix on a more informal level to collaborate, share ideas and build better networks.
  • Meet the HL7 AU Board - Take the opportunity to get to know your HL7 Australia Board in our Q & A session.  Bring any ideas you may have on how we can work to build a better HL7 community and provide you with the services you are needing.
  • Networking Dinner - Day 2 ends with a sit down dinner and an opportunity to listen to guest speakers.

NCTS Connectathon - 5 & 6 July 2016

As a precursor to the HL7 Australia WGM, NEHTA, CSIRO and HL7 Australia are holding another NCTS Connectathon. This 1.5 day session provides an update on the National Clinical Terminology Service (NCTS) and its use of the Health Level Seven (HL7) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR®) specification.  More details for this can be obtained from help@nehta.gov.au
